Jane chuckled when Shannon replied that sharing a tent was as close to moving in together s anyone could get. It was true, but Jane hadn't even considered the implication of living together because it was a tent. Something about putting it in that context both scared and thrilled her at the same time. Jane stood in wonder at that realization and the phrasing Shannon had used while the girl continued to stare at the metal hatch they'd uncovered, unaware of the pause of the other woman's questions.
It wasn't until Shannon gave an exasperated sigh and disapproval of their situation with the hatch that Jane came back to earth. She looked at the dull metal below them and came to stand next to Shannon as she stared down on it. It was a conundrum, one the two women had been working on for days now. It seemed no amount of pounding n the hatch budged it, not even with big sticks and rocks. Jane felt pretty sure no one could be down there. With all the racket they made, surely no one inside could have missed it.
Chewing the inside of her lip, Jane concentrated. She gave a short laugh when Shannon mentioned dynamite and looked at when she asked if she had any ideas. "Not really. I mean if we had dynamite, we could ... Well, I don't know what we could do actually, at least aside from blowing this thing opened."
Sighing, Jane put a hand in her back pocket and rested her weight on her hip. "I mean, we could ask the others back at camp for ideas, but I think you and me have exhausted most of our resources."

Shannon frowned down at the hatch. This stupid thing was like one big brain-teaser. She'd never been very good at those. She had so many questions she wanted answered. What was this thing doing here? Who built it? what was inside? What did those numbers mean?
She sighed and sat down on a fallen log, staring at the big hunk of metal. She hated to give up on it, feeling like yet again she'd failed at something, but as much as she hated to admit it Jane was right. The two of them had tried everything they could think of, and they'd only learned one thing. They couldn't get this thing open alone.
"Okay," she sighed. "Well, who would we wanna ask?"

The obvious people Jane would have asked immediately for help were MIA, having just disappeared overnight several weeks before. It was the same time their camp seemed to have gone insane and began trusting a couple of Others. Jane, herself, was as always skeptical. She didn't trust easily, and allowed herself to become friends with others even more rarely.
Ash was, of course, her second thought. Well, he probably would have been a first thought but he just wasn't the "leader of the island" type. Jane didn't know who was anymore. Sawyer seemed to be making nice with the Other, Juliet, and Jane just wasn't impressed with too many others. Then again she hadn't exactly spent time with any of them. She'd still found herself keeping mostly off on her own, only with the company of Ash now. That thought in mind, Jane was even more lost as to who to ask than before.
"I have no idea," Jane finally said after a long moment. Her voice held some defeat and frustration with the situation, but her eyes still held the same die hard determination they always did. "Maybe we just go back and make the announcement and let anyone have at it? Seems we don't really have any leaders around here anymore to take charge, so maybe this will bring it out the best in someone."
Since we just rebooted, we have several key canons to place! Will you be the one to make a difference?
